All killer, no filler: Lantern Festival 2011
Well done to Jason, Patrick, Scott and John who joined Aaron and James in the Hapkido Demonstration at the Lantern Festival. As there were only two of us in 2010, it's a fantastic mark of how the club has progressed to see a larger group performing.
We filed on after waiting for 30 minutes through dragon dancing and Tai Chi. The crowd, somewhat restless after the zen-like swordplay of the previous act were up for some carnage. We did not dissapoint. John's screams every time someone threw on a wristlock were enough to curdle the blood. Aaron perfected 'the Hochwimmer' - a deadly stab through the back with a rubber knife on an already submissive foe. The compare, somewhat breathless and, it must be said, well off the written notes provided by James, could only utter an astonished 'that's amazing!', before inadvertantly promoting James to head instructor. According to Patrick, Aaron's throws were noticeably more vicious after this utterance.
